The Greek Academy Safeguarding Policy.

How we protect and promote the welfare of every child in our care.

The Greek Academy recognises its duty of care to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people. We are committed to ensuring that our safeguarding practices align with statutory responsibilities, government guidance and best practice.

Scope of the policy.

  • This policy applies to all adults, including the Board of Trustees, volunteers, paid staff, agency staff, and anyone working on behalf of The Greek Academy.
  • It recognises that the welfare and interests of children and young people are paramount in all circumstances.
  • It aims to ensure that all children and young people have a positive and enjoyable experience while learning in a safe and child-centred environment, and are protected from abuse.
  • We acknowledge that some children and young people — especially those who have a disability or are from ethnic minority communities — can be particularly vulnerable to abuse. We accept our responsibility to take reasonable and appropriate steps to protect their welfare.

Our commitments.

The Greek Academy will:

  1. Promote and prioritise the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.
  2. Ensure that everyone understands their roles and responsibilities regarding safeguarding, and is provided with mandatory learning opportunities to recognise, identify and respond to signs of abuse, neglect and other safeguarding concerns.
  3. Provide all children and young people, along with their parents or carers, with information about our safeguarding arrangements upon joining the school.
  4. Widely promote our safeguarding policies and procedures.
  5. Ensure that trustees, staff and volunteers take all concerns and allegations of abuse seriously and respond appropriately.
  6. Securely maintain and store confidential, detailed and accurate records of all safeguarding concerns.
  7. Prevent the use of unsuitable individuals through the robust application of Disclosure and Barring arrangements and best practice in the safe recruitment of staff and volunteers working with children and young people.
  8. Address any failure to comply with this policy without delay.

Monitoring.

This policy will be reviewed annually, with revisions recommended to the Board of Trustees. It may also be reviewed in response to changes in legislation or government guidance.
