Safeguarding Policy

The Greek Academy Safeguarding Policy

The Greek Academy recognises its duty of care to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people. We are committed to ensuring that our safeguarding practices align with statutory responsibilities, government guidance, and best practices.

Scope of the Policy

  • This policy applies to all adults, including the Board of Trustees, volunteers, paid staff, agency staff, and anyone working on behalf of The Greek Academy.
  • It recognises that the welfare and interests of children and young people are paramount in all circumstances.
  • It aims to ensure that all children and young people have a positive and enjoyable experience while learning in a safe and child-centred environment and are protected from abuse.

We acknowledge that some children and young people, especially those who have a disability or are from ethnic minority communities, can be particularly vulnerable to abuse. We accept our responsibility to take reasonable and appropriate steps to ensure their welfare.

Commitments: The Greek Academy will:

  • Promote and prioritise the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.
  • Ensure that everyone understands their roles and responsibilities regarding safeguarding and is provided with mandatory learning opportunities to recognise, identify, and respond to signs of abuse, neglect, and other safeguarding concerns.
  • Provide all children and young people, along with their parents or carers, with information about TGA’s safeguarding arrangements upon joining the organisation.
  • Widely promote TGA’s safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that trustees, staff, and volunteers take all concerns and allegations of abuse seriously and respond appropriately.
  • Securely maintain and store confidential, detailed, and accurate records of all safeguarding concerns.
  • Prevent the use of unsuitable individuals through the robust application of Disclosure and Barring arrangements and best practices in the safe recruitment of staff and volunteers working with children and young people.
  • Address any failure to comply with this policy without delay.

Monitoring

This policy will be reviewed annually, with revisions recommended to the Board of Trustees. It may also be reviewed in response to changes in legislation or government guidelines.
